5 Tips to Get Back to a Learning Mindset Post-vacation

The new term has started, but is your child still in a holiday mood? This term will pass extremely fast and before you know it, the end of the year examinations will come. So it’s understandable that as a parent, you are getting a little bit concerned.

How can you help your child to get back to a learning mindset post-vacation?

Here are 5 tips that you may find useful.

1. Create a study schedule.

This is something you can do together with your child, allowing you to take into consideration your child’s study habits. Do remember to include sufficient time for rest so your child is not overwhelmed, physically and mentally.

2. Start small and focus on achievable daily tasks to give your child space to ease back into the school and study routine.

It’s not possible to expect your child to immediately jump back into study mode. This will tire them out easily. Focusing on smaller, daily tasks first generates a sense of satisfaction and motivates your child to jump into their studies at the same pace as before the holidays.

3. Declutter the study space.

Your child’s room is probably in a mess after a relaxing holiday. Decluttering the physical space will do wonders for the mind and emotions. A tidier space can help your child feel more relaxed, happier, calmer and more in control. They will have better focus too.

4. Breathe deeply and meditate to calm the brain.

Just five minutes a day can improve your child’s concentration while boosting their energy and improving productivity.

5. Visualise the end goal.

Guide your child to visualise completing their study goals for the day, or even for the term. Ask them how they feel after the task is completed and to focus on that feeling. Whether they feel a sense of achievement or gratification, advise them to do actions that would help them achieve that feeling.
